The Pyrenean desman is a special animal in the Basque Country, although it is still unknown to many people. It is a semi-aquatic insectivore mammal from the same family of the mole. In last ten decades it is in a state of regression in most of its distribution area, what makes it need a proper management. We knew that they prefer riffles, but we wanted to know whether that selection could be explained by the food available. We also tried to describe desmans diet and prey selection, by genetically analyzing its faeces. In general, our work talks about the importance of favoring the riffles and reviewing the ecological flows. The results of this research will be essential to take steps towards the species conservation.
